SCOPE OF CHEMISTRY, IN 5 MAIN BRANCHES ;Are you looking for it?

SCOPE OF CHEMISTRY

Everything around us deals with chemistry. When we say a thing like a  scope, we come to know that it’s a branch of science that is as old as mankind, and at the same time, it went through the evolution phases just like human beings. From the atmosphere to the sea, plants to animals, eateries to drinks, even our bodies are composed of various chemicals. So the vast scope of chemistry can’t be denied. It has scope in the following fields:.

    • Chemical industry
    • Sugar industry
    • Glass industry
    • Cement industry
    • Pharmaceutical industry
    • Seed industry
    • Ceramic industry
    • Food industry
    • Beverages industry
    • Petrochemical industry
    • Research labs
    • Forensic labs
    • Mining and Minerals Department
    • Universities and colleges

In the above-mentioned fields, a person with a degree and knowledge of chemistry can work as a chemical engineer, biochemical engineer, analytical chemist, petrochemical engineer, environmental engineer, and nuclear scientist. Chemistry also plays an important role in academia and research.

If you are doing a bachelor’s in chemistry currently, then you should be very careful when choosing your specialization subject or major. Your project or subject in the final year of BS or MSC must be in line with your subject in Ph.D., as it defines your decision power as well as your behavior towards your studies.

Let’s see the pluses and drawbacks you should consider while choosing your major. First of all, you should consider your passion and interest. The second thing you need to consider other than passion is the faculty at your university.

Organic Chemistry

Organic chemistry does hold a special place in the field of chemistry due to its traditional importance and private institutions preference. It holds its scope in the fields of research and development, pharmaceuticals, and the drug industry, as well as in academia. But you should only go for it if you have some interest; otherwise, while following the trend, you will be lagging behind in the long run.

Organic chemistry is very conceptual, and it requires intensive work. Saturation and high competition are also found in this field. Being in a developing country like Pakistan, where the inflation rate is very high, paper publishing is a very tough process as buying chemicals on your own is very expensive, and the experiments do require a lot of chemicals and time in case of wrong results, especially during a PhD.

Inorganic  Chemistry

Inorganic chemistry is also one of the traditional branches of chemistry, which holds its scope equally in both academia and industry. It is evolving fast these days. Talking about research and development, coordination compounds and nanoparticles are the most emerging topics these days. It has comparatively less saturation, but it does require strong memorization and a high understanding level. A strong concept base is something that is required if you want to surpass it easily. Obviously, interest and passion do matter a lot here too.

Paper publication is comparatively easy, as experiment results can be obtained easily in one go if they are performed carefully and attentively. Fertilizer industry, organics, oil refineries, etc. are the areas for inorganic chemists.

Analytical  Chemistry

Analytical chemistry is emerging very strongly these days. It had a lot of opportunities. It is a new field with a lot of new things in it. Material chemistry, research and development, pharmaceuticals, purification plants, and many more are the areas where analytical chemistry is being applied. Industries always prefer analytical chemists as far as their interests are concerned.

A person should improve his instrument handling if he wants to excel in analytical chemistry. It is a branch that bears fruit with a little effort, and if you don’t have some sort of interest in any field, then you should definitely go for it. Paper publication is comparatively easy in this branch.

Physical Chemistry

Physical chemistry is one of the traditional branches of chemistry that has been neglected for a long time, but it is emerging strongly these days with its excellent scope in both academia and research development. Atomic and nuclear research are eye-catching in physical chemistry. All sorts of tests regarding jobs, etc. possess a major portion of physical chemistry in the chemistry section.

One thing to keep in mind is that physical chemistry is all about math. We can say that 50% math excellence is required in this field. If you are ready for the long run and your mathematical calculations are good, then you should opt for physical chemistry for better. Computational chemistry is a thing that is and will have a major scope in the near future.

Biochemistry

In this aesthetic era, where people are longing for beauty and fitness, various vitamins, serums, supplements, and many more are produced and launched every day by different companies, which are prepared and analyzed by biochemists. Let alone the women; even men are investing a lot in buying skincare products and are becoming fitness freaks these days. This is all thanks to biochemists who are working hard to meet their demands.

Biochemistry plays an important part in pharmaceuticals, drug synthesizing, forensics, and laboratories. Hospitals do require biochemists for their own good. During COVID-19, biochemists tried their best and came up with vaccines to save the world.

Apart from laboratories and hospitals, biochemistry plays an important part in academia as well as research and development. It is a field that is progressing by leaps and bounds. It does require a lot of effort, passion, and devotion.

REMEMBER!

Passion and devotion come first in each case. Choose your major wisely.

GOODLUCK!
